I made this piece to enter into a competition held by the Hand Engravers Association and The Clockmakers Guild of Great Britain. The brief was to make any clock dial that could be used in a watch or clock. I based the design on a harmonic diminishment of a dodecahedron, then infilled with elements from two separate 12-fold geometric patterns. A twelve-petaled lotus flower fills the center. The engraving was done with a square graver using a beveled carving style that created a sort of intaglio structure below the surface instead of a flat removed ground. Diameter approx 70mm. My entry won first place! This piece will be part of an exhibition held in North Yorkshire at Tennents Auctioneers opening Sunday, July 9th.
