This was a collaboration with master bookbinder Habib Dingle. Habib has produced several books with wooden bindings in the past and in this project we developed some of his earlier ideas to create a hinged wooden binding which allows the book to be removed from the binding and replaced as the need arises. The boards are hand-carved, solid macassar ebony, dished out to allow the book to fit inside. The accents, inlays and hinge barrels are of hard maple and African blackwood. All components are fully handmade. Some of the hinge barrels are stitched to the book while others are attached to the boards, when the pin is inserted into the barrels the hinge locks the whole together. The book is kept closed with a dovetail clasp in African blackwood.
