This was my first independent project after having the honor of participating with an international team of craftsmen to reconstruct the Minbar of Salah al Din Ayyoubi. I got to learn some new and interesting carving techniques as well as hands-on training in the kundekari joinery technique, both of which I had the opportunity to apply in this project. Kundekari is an amazing technique that allows large areas of wooden paneling to be applied in a way that allows for expansion and contraction of seasonal atmospheric changes, while at the same time creating beautiful geometric structures that are simultaneously patterns, all without depending on glue or nails.
